February 3-4, 2012 Venice

We left Jacksonville on Friday morning at 6:30 am and headed for Venice. Having decided to take the scenic route and avoid the freeway, we knew that it would take most of the day to reach our destination. On this route we saw lots of ranches, mostly for horses, and some orange groves. We passed through many small towns and villages as well as a couple of small cities. We avoided the I 75 for most of the day and only had to travel on it for about the last 20 miles of the trip.

Venice has a very large snowbird population with the average age being 67. Named the “shark tooth capital of the world” Venice has much more than fossilized sharks' teeth. Warm water, beautiful beaches, golf, friendly people, and best of all, great weather, make this an ideal place to spend some time during the winter.

Today we went for a long walk, attended a local party, grocery shopped, cooked, went for a bike ride and watched a movie...a very relaxing day. Tomorrow: golf.
